South Brighton's JuniorSurf Programme is an integral part of surf club activity and the future face and training ground for lifeguards. Children aged between 5-13 participate in organised activity that ensures they are surf and safety educated and confident to undertake training for their Surf Lifeguard Award at age 14. Our JuniorSurf programme consists of a variety of activities including surf events, beach events, skills development and life guarding.
This year (the 2011 season) the club will be offering a full program as per past seasons. The South Brighton beach has been declared safe by the Christchurch council for normal use although we will continue to monitor the water quality to ensure the health of anyone participating in the nipper program.
Our cadet members are rostered on patrols to help their development under the watchful eye of our senior members. We also encourage our junior members and parents to participate in course's provided by the district, which include , risk management courses, parent coaching days and skill development training. Skill development training includes teaching 12 and 13 year olds about first aid, emergency care, radio operation, IRB operation and beach awareness, first aid, surf rescue and competition activities.
At South Brighton we can provide some of the best possible coaching in the district, as we boost some of the country's best athletes and coaches, whom interact with the junior surf programme as much as they are able too. |
